What's this church thing all about?

New to church? Not sure what to expect at a Vineyard Sunday service? What is it all about?

At Compassion Vineyard, we believe church is not only about the Sunday service, but that when we get together on Sunday, we spend time focussing on some of the important activities that shape what we prioritise and give time to during the remainder of the week.

Worship is a core part of who we are as followers of Jesus. Giving to God all our adoration and praise through everything we say and do.

On a Sundays, we express this through music and song, dance, prayer, serving, creativity, generosity, and other responses that flow naturally from who we are because of who God is.

Jesus showed his followers what God is like, what relationship with God should look like, and the best way to live life following his example. He taught his followers and then told them to teach others. In church, we call this discipling. A disciple is a life-long student, learning, growing, and trying to be like their teacher in every way.

On Sundays, we learn together how to live like Jesus so that we can be like him in our community, and follow his final instruction; 'go, and make disciples / followers of all the people in the world'.

As people, doing life alone is hard, and we always seek connection of some sort. We are hard-wired to be in relationship with others.

Community life can be messy. So can church community. But, we believe it's worth showing up for (like on Sundays) because life is so much better with others who accept us as we are and journey with us as we grow and learn to do life in different ways.

Jesus spent most of his ministry life bringing the power of God's kingdom to earth through 'word and works' - preaching and demonstrating the Kingdom with the help of Holy Spirit. This looked like teaching, stories, miracles, and healing.

In Vineyard, we believe all followers of Jesus are empowered through the same Holy Spirit he had, and that we can pray for one another.

Coming with Kids?

Awesome! We have activities and a space set up for them in the main room. They are, of course, totally welcome to participate in all the things the adults do.

"But, my kids are noisy and don't sit still"... Not a worry! We are very relaxed about kids being kids. Jesus was the one who said 'let the children come to me', so who are we to not invite them in?

Youth

What is Youth Group?

Held once a month on a Friday night, Youth for Strath invites young people aged 12-17 to hang out in a safe place, have some fun, explore some of life's big issues without pressure or judgment, and get to make friends with other local youth. Each month, there are games, supper, and an opportunity to explore, without pressure, what life can look like with Jesus in it.

Child-Safe Policy

As an Initiative of Marion Vineyard Christian Fellowship (MV), Compassion Vineyard continues to be covered by MV's policies and procedures. The Child Safe Policy found on this page is, therefore, the same policy followed by Compassion Vineyard.

Life Group

Held on the off-fortnight to Sunday services, small groups get together in local homes to grow relationally and share aspects of how they live with faith at the centre of every day.

Life groups are an ideal way to grow as a disciple/apprentice of Jesus and to explore Bible knowledge and understanding, as well as grow in friendships and support with others. Those attending Life Groups with Compassion Vineyard are encouraged to continue attending regularly. This helps to create a safe space for sharing life, and ensures no one misses out on any of the shared understanding from the topic being explored.
